As we finally leave winter behind and look ahead to warmer months, you probably feel like there’s a lot you want to accomplish now that you’ll be fueled by more daylight and vitamin D. Setting goals can be really fun, but it can also be totally overwhelming. Dreaming big is a good thing, but unless you actually create a roadmap for yourself for how you can achieve all of the things that you want to, it’s easy to lose sight of what you want to get done.

Whether you’re concerned with an upcoming deadline or are just looking for a couple of suggestions for how to stay on track, here are 5 ways to stay motivated so that you can achieve your wildest, most extra dreams.

Resist The Urge To Scroll

We all know that scrolling on social media for hours never leads to any good, and yet every night I find myself falling into the same routine. When you feel yourself start to fall down a rabbit hole of scrolling, stop and remind yourself of the other things you could be doing. You could read a career book, listen to an inspiring podcast, or draft a networking email to someone you admire to see if they’ll get coffee with you. When you replace something passive with something active, you’ll feel much better and avoid the comparison game.

Create A Step-By-Step Plan

Setting a goal for yourself is great, but how can you make sure that you really achieve it? Break down the goal into smaller goals and figure out something little you can do today to get started on it. Give yourself a realistic deadline and set reminders on your phone to check in with yourself along the way.

Try Different Strategies To Achieve Your End Result

Not everyone is productive in the same way! Try working both in the morning and in the evening to see when your focus is at its highest. Use some different methods to get your work done like grouping projects together in a batching format, or working for 30 minutes and then take a 5 minutes break. Another strategy I often use is giving myself a fake deadline one or two days before something is actually due because then I can account for something going wrong at the last minute.

Hold Yourself Accountable

The best way to hold yourself accountable for your goals is to share them with others! Tell your bestie or your mentor that you’re working towards something and ask them to keep you in check to make sure that you’re on the right track. Better yet, if you know someone who is also working towards something, make a plan! Schedule a coffee shop work date or a gym session or whatever you think you might need to do to meet your deadline.

Reward Yourself When You Make Progress

One of the things that we often forget to do is give ourselves credit when we’ve made some major progress. When you achieve something that was on your to-do list, treat yourself to that latte from your favorite coffee shop or pick up your favorite beauty product from Sephora. It doesn’t have to be expensive or over-the-top, but it’s a nice reminder that you’re making progress and that good things are on the horizon.
